Founded in 1989 and incorporated in 1990, the North East Historical Society was created to preserve the rich history of our community.

In 2002, the Society opened its museum inside the historic North East Cultural Center, a beautifully restored building shared with the North East Arts Council. Today, the museum continues to collect, preserve, and share the stories that define North East.

This historic building is completely handicapped accessible. You can find the museum on the first floor of the building below the North East Arts Council on the second floor. We would also like to thank Mrs. Gerrie Smith - who helped bring the Historical Society to life as an active member in the North East community.

At The North East Historical Society, our mission is to promote the study of local history.  

We do this through the collection and preservation of historical records of the area; the preservation, maintenance, and protection of historical sites, buildings, and objects; the provision of adequate historical, educational services to any educational, charitable or scientific endeavor which will accomplish the above objectives.
