• North East and the Civil War

When soldiers were needed to fight the Civil War, most of the men enlisted in local volunteer regiments. Eric Marshall went into the details of raising of the three local regiments, namely the 83rd, 111th, and145th Pennsylvania volunteers that most North East men joined.

He explained how the officers were selected and what life was like at Camp Reed, which was their basic training, before leaving for the war many miles from home.

North East joined with all the communities in this area to fill the ranks of these units, especially the 111th. He also spoke about recruitment efforts and how the men enlisted before joining their units at Camp Reed.
